Charlene’s Fitness Journey
I have struggled with weight my entire life. I have tried every diet imaginable, and I have lost weight on all these plans, only to gain it back again. I have always exercised, but I also love to eat. All my hard work would be in vain. When Snap Fitness opened in October 2007, I knew I wanted to become a member and try to meet my fitness goals. Between October and December, I would work out 3-5 times a week for about 45 minutes. By Christmas, I was stronger, but wasn’t losing any weight. I needed to change my eating habits. On January 7, 2008, after researching healthy weight loss, I made a lifestyle change and started journaling my food intake and workouts. I followed a balanced plan eating from all the food groups. I increased my workouts, including cardio, from 45 minutes to anywhere between 60 and 80 minutes depending on what body part I am working on that day. It’s an awesome feeling to go in and realize I need to increase the weight and/or resistance to get the same workout because I am becoming increasingly more fit. What’s even more fun is seeing my clothes become looser! This summer, I finally got rid of clothes that no longer fit me.
As a mother of 3 and a school counselor, I am constantly on the go. However, the difference now is I have more energy than ever. I get teased a lot about working out so early (4:00 a.m. during the school year and 5:00 a.m. in the summer) but I find it helps me make no excuses for not working out. If I go that early and get it done, my kids are asleep, there’s nothing going on that requires my attention, I feel so good for the rest of the day and my workout is done before most people even get out of bed! I can’t say I am too tired from work, or my kids have to be here or there, or I need to go grocery shopping… no excuses. It fits me.
Another thing that is great about Snap Fitness is that I can go just about anywhere and get a workout in – even on vacation! My son’s college baseball team made it to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado and my whole family took off for a week in May to attend. It was right in the middle of the latest Snap Fitness Adventure Challenge. I really like to participate in those challenges and I was so worried that I would get to Colorado and miss a whole week of working out – even though I had good intentions of walking or swimming. However, I got online and found a Snap Fitness right there in Grand Junction! I still got my workouts in even though I was over 1,000 miles from home.
Snap Fitness has helped me meet my fitness goals (which are ongoing). To date I have lost over 30 pounds and many, many inches. Even though I still have a ways to go, I know I will continue to lose weight and get stronger. I am thankful for this club and the opportunity to share my story with you. It has changed my life for the better!
